Say No to Black Hat SEO

Most website owners use Search Engine Optimisation but, there are many who have been taking undue advantage of it. There have been organizations that have been using certain techniques to further their business interests unethically. They have spammed the search engines and have gained entry at the top of the search results.

While most website owners use it ethically and legally, the misuse of it has been a bane for these owners of websites.

The businesses that misuse it effectively block the way for the websites that have legitimately used Google to gain entry to the top of the rankings.

These people not only rob you of your rankings, but also of your traffic and audience and the revenue that would have subsequently translated. This is called spamming and is illegal and no one should indulge in this activity to further business interests in any manner.

The penalties for spamming the search engine may result in steep penalties and your website may be banned from featuring in the top search engines.

Let us take a look at the various illegal SEO techniques:

§ A business that uses illegal techniques may employ keyword stuffing. This means that these businesses constantly re use the same keywords in their Meta tags and elsewhere throughout the website content.

§ There are many websites that are identical because they use the same content but have different URLs. Google, depending on the keywords, can pick up both websites for a higher ranking. This pushes the legitimate websites to the backburner or the dreaded third page. Such duplicate websites are known as mirror websites or Sybil attacks.

§ The doorway pages are another method to fool the search engines. These types of pages typically have poor quality and have been constructed for this purpose only.

§ Cloaking is another method to fool the search engines. This method enables the businesses using illegal methods to deliver multiple different pages for search engines and visitors.

§ Link farms can also fool the search engines by having multiple links to other websites. These are typically one pagers that contain links to multiple web pages or websites and have no original content of their own. Hence, Google is sometimes unable to detect this for a while, but usually they clock on eventually.
